The
Intellectual Property Office is responsible for the management
and commercialization of Penn State intellectual property.
The IPO evaluates inventions for patentability, commercial
potential, and marketability. It develops and implements strategies
to protect inventions and to market them to industry. It prepares,
negotiates, monitors, and enforces license, option, and other
agreements. And it advises University inventors and creators
regarding patents, copyrights, and other intellectual property
issues.

Industry
Ronald
J. Huss, associate director of the Intellectual Property Office,
oversees the handling and licensing of inventions and negotiates
licensing agreements. Prior to 1996, when he joined Penn State
in the newly created IPO associate director position, Huss
was director of business development at Bio-Technical Resources
in Manitowoc, Wis. He holds a doctorate in biochemistry and
was honored in 1994 with the Van Lanen Distinguished Service
Award of the Biochemical Technology Division of the American
Chemical Society.
